On April 16, 2023, there's musical drag storytime at the Halifax Library!
"We're very excited to be working with Rouge to present Peter and the Wolf," said a Chebucto Symphony orchestra member, "It's a concert for the young, and the young at heart."
Peter and the Wolf was commissioned by a Moscow children's theatre to be an instructional and fun, first performed in 1936 and quickly became one of the most frequently performed works in the entire classical repertoire.
"I'm so excited to be a part of this production," said Rouge, "the Orchestra has been a joy to work with!"
The piece musically tells a Russian folk tale of a boy and his animal friends capturing a wolf. Prokofiev assigned each character a musical instrument or class of instruments: the bird was identified by a flute tune, the cat with a clarinet, Peter’s grandfather with a bassoon, the wolf with horns and so on. Peter himself was given the entire string section and a jaunty melody.
In 1946, Disney made a 15-minute animated short in which the narrator tells you about the story.
The performance is on Sunday, April 16, 2023 2:00PM – 3:00PM at the Halifax Central Library, Spring Garden Road, Paul O'Regan Hall - the big auditorium on the ground floor.
