Trailblazing PEI trans artist, Erica Rutherford (1923-2008), is included in the powerful exhibit Women in Revolt! – Art and Activism in the UK 1970-1990 at the Tate Britain from November 2023 – April 2024.
Rutherford’s paintings are part of the exhibit of women’s art arising from socio-political contexts in the 1970s and 1980s that provoked protest and progress. The art is displayed chronologically, closing with the visibility of lesbian communities and the AIDS epidemic.
Next, Erica Rutherford’s art will feature at the 2024 Venice Biennale from April 20, 2024 – November 24!
And, the PEI Confederation Centre is hosting a full retrospective of Erica's work this summer.
