Wanted: anti-hate toolkit team

Dear Wayves reader, contributor:

In the last few years, we’ve seen more right-wing trans- and homophobic activity in the USA, predictably followed by the same in Canada.

This was one reason, among many others, for the Wayves reboot a year ago - to have a curated, trusted, all-Q, local information source.  We can also predict that social media will be increasingly filled with dis- and mis-information.

The same Wayves machine that delivers news, business profiles, book and arts reviews, and the occasional editorial, will be ready to inform you of concerning political and activism trends.

But, I am loathe to publish alarming information unless it's accompanied by ways that you can do something.

So, for the last few weeks, a small part of the Wayves editorial team has been kicking around the idea of a local — Atlantic Canadian — anti hate resource guide:

  • by and for Atlantic Canadian Q folk;
  • practical things that people can do to push back against hate; and
  • written for ordinary people, not activists.

We need this team to be not quite so small.

If you’re concerned about creeping or galloping right-wing conservatism and want to help create a toolkit to push back against it, write back. We’ll do most of our work probably by Facebook Messenger group chat, possibly by email.

I anticipate this project should take about a month couple of months, a few minutes a day - thinking, googling, reading and commenting.

If you want to be on this team, please write back.
