Avalon Artist Directory

Here's Wayves Magazine's directory of Q artists in Eastern Newfoundland.

The directory is maintained by visual artist "Bluughost" or Mack. If there's a Q artist missing here, let Mack know - there's an email link at the bottom of the article.

Beloved Angel

Beloved Angel (Destiny, she/they) is an up-and-coming visual artist based in Lewisporte, Newfoundland.

Destiny primarily focuses on digital illustrations, including but not limited to fan artworks of media like Overwatch and Monster High, original characters, and Dungeons & Dragons themed pieces. Art is something Destiny has always been passionate about, whether that be illustrating digitally, painting with physical mediums, or creating music. Being able to express herself through more than just words is something she enjoys and takes comfort in.

Destiny’s art style is dreamy, soft, and oh-so shiny~! They enjoy sharing their craft with other creatives through trading art with one another, taking custom artwork commissions to help people bring their ideas to life, and as of recently selling her work at conventions such as Gander Geekfest.

You can find Destiny and her work on Instagram.

Bluughost

Bluughost (Mack, he/him) is a self taught and independent transgender artist based in Eastern Newfoundland.

Mack has been drawing ever since he was able to hold a pencil, but his passion for art fully bloomed when he was 11 years old (2014). This is also around the time he discovered anime. Art served as an outlet for him to express feelings that were difficult to verbalize, especially during those awkward angsty teen years. Throughout his time in school he won numerous awards and recognition for his artwork.

His main focus now is on digital illustrations, which he sells prints of, among other handmade items, at conventions such as Sci-fi on the Rock and Avalon Expo. His work ranges from fan artworks, to personalized art, to completely original illustrations, incorporating bold colours and cute characters to draw the viewer’s eyes in. Aside from digital illustrations, Mack creates cat plushies out of fluffy socks. ‘Cause who doesn’t love cats?

You can find Mack and his work on Instagram.

Buttercup Studios

Buttercup Studios (Hilary Cooper, she/her) is a mixed media artist and graphic designer located in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Hilary’s childhood was full of art, she recalls painting together with her mother at the dining table as a small child. At the young age of 8, she decided she wanted to be a tattoo artist, which is around the same time when Hilary started to take her craft more seriously. She worked extra hard; taking online art classes throughout high school and staying for art club hosted by artist Frank LaPointe after school hours. Unfortunately, she never went to school for fine arts like she had hoped she would, instead she went to post-secondary to become a doctor but inevitably dropped out.

Now, Hilary is a graphic designer working in marketing, running her own freelance business, and helping her partner promote their own business (Kingdoms TCG)! Not to mention, creating art for KTCG and scouting new artists to breathe their own life into it.

Chellydraws

Chellydraws (Chelsea, she/her) is a Digital Artist based in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland.

Chelsea first started her artist journey when she was a young teen. Her inspiration came from anime, and as the years progressed she challenged herself, improved, and refined her artwork into what it is today. She still draws fan artworks for various animes, and loves to use her work as an outlet to express her admiration for these different medias. She excels at replicating different art styles present in pop culture; Hazbin Hotel, Pokémon, and Smiling Friends to name a few. Her work is focused on stationary like notepads, sticky notes, and stickers.

Chelsea eventually started a business with her best friend, Rook, called “Rook & Chelly”. You can find the duo at many conventions across the island such as Sci-fi on the Rock, Avalon Expo, and Gander Geekfest. Lovingly nicknamed the Black & Gold table in reference to the colour scheme they have, and previously the Fort by fellow art vendors due to the height at which their display stood.

Kors Korner

Kors Korner (Emma Kennedy, any/all pronouns) is an artist and Chair of Membership for the Queer Atlantic Business Hub (QABH), based in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Emma first started drawing back in school, constantly doodling on any available paper, and even getting to do an entire mural for their school! Their work is inspired by fantasy and medieval themes, and evokes a feeling of reading a vintage fairy tale book, truly fit for a Renaissance Faire. She can be found at many events like Avalon Expo offering original prints, fan artworks, and other trinkets like necklaces, and even taking commissions for one of a kind pieces.

Aside from their artwork, they hope to soon run their own events for their community. Emma recommends checking out the QABH and the Quadrangle to support other artists and your community.

You can find Emma and their work on Instagram.

Wolfo Sammy Designs

Wolfo Sammy Designs (Samantha Harbin, any pronouns) is an artist and indie VTuber based in Paradise, Newfoundland.

Sammy’s inspiration initially came to light with the Warrior Cat series by Erin Hunter. Discovering this series opened the doors to other nerdy media such as Pokémon and Vocaloid, which still inspire them and their work to this day! He loves sharing his creative process – as well as gaming – on their YouTube livestreams, and thrives to inspire others to do their best. Her work is cute and cartoon-y, with big sparkly eyes and shiny backgrounds.

Alongside Sammy’s digital and traditional artwork, they also make crocheted items. Between hats, hoods, and handwarmers they’ve got you covered… Literally! You can find them at most Avalon Expos, enjoying cosplay and selling their creations with their community!

You can also find Sammy on Instagram, and check out their Youtube channel here
