Last month, Kate Phillips’ and Lynette Richards’ works were featured at the 2024 International Comics Festival in Angoulême, France! This is the second-largest comics festival in Europe and the third-largest in the world, running annualy since 1974. The two artists were selected to represent Nova Scotia in the Canadian Focus in Angoulême, D’un Ocean a L’autre. [the sense of the title is probably, From Coast To Coast.]
Kate Phillips’ comics and illustrations have appeared in many LGBTQ+ publications including Deal With It: Biphobia; a queer educational book (Lorimer), A Mother’s Day Surprise, and Fairy Robot to the Rescue. Lynette Richards’ first graphic novel, Call Me Bill (Conundrum Press 2022) weaves two true stories together; the 1873 wreck of the SS Atlantic steamer at Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia, and reveals the identity of the widely reported “mysterious female sailor”, who is buried in the mass grave in Terence Bay, Nova Scotia.
