Will there be a LGBT Community Center in Moncton?

Over the past several weeks there has been much talk and debate about a possible LGBTQ Community Unity Center in Moncton. The facebook group dedicated to this has been receiving both positive and negative comments: Will people attend? Where will the funding come from? Many people are in favor of having a place where the LGBT Community of Moncton can meet without yelling over loud dance music to talk with each other, a place that is open during the day, a place to discuss events that are important to the community as a whole. Some say this is a great idea and it could be a great benefit to all of us. It would be great to have a place where PFLAG and Safe Spaces could meet. It would also be great as a meeting spot for community activists to meet.

Some people feel that the LGBT community of Moncton is too divided for a place like this to work. One member of the facebook discussion goes as far as to say: “In principle, this is a good idea BUT unfortunately doubt this would work." While I respect this opinion, I know we can dream big and make it happen. Let's dream of a safe place where we can make new friends, meet singles, create a sense of belonging and even have fun.
