Elderberries January Newsletter

Happy New Year!

The Elderberries Board is planning another great year of social time, education, entertainment. Here’s the first instalment.

Elderberries Pot Luck Social

1. Elderberries Potluck Social - Sunday January 11, 2015 2:00 to 4:30 pm.
Location : The Penthouse, 2615 Northwood Terrace. Wheelchair accessible.

The program : Archiving LGBT history. You may well have valuable documents relating to LGBT history in Nova Scotia. They may be in a cardboard box in the basement (sure the mice have not got to it?), or in a plastic Tough Tote behind the bed, or in a forty-year-old diary you can't quite bring yourself to throw out.

Karen White, an archivist with Nova Scotia Archives, looks after donations of records from businesses, organizations, and individuals. She will speak and present a slide show on what kind of material interests the Archives, and on how the Archives acquires and preserves records. "We think the social movement of the Nova Scotia LGBTQ community to gain legal recognition and social acceptance is very significant...We hope to document this significant change by asking for donations of records from Nova Scotians who've experienced the Gay Rights Movement directly in their lives."

The social : the Elderberries Potluck Social is a free monthly event open to LGBT persons aged fifty plus, and our families, friends, and supporters. Bring a friend! Parking is often available in the surrounding streetes, or there is paid parking in a lot just opposite the entrance. Please : no scents, no peanuts, no alcohol, no pets. Service dogs welcome.

The potluck : please bring something you would enjoy eating and sharing. Kitchen facilities are not available, so something room temperature is best. Please bring any serving implements your dish will require : for example, knives to cut cake or squares, tongs for salad, etc. Coffee and tea are provided courtesy of Northwood.
