By Adam Reid, Queer Acts Festival Director.

Greetings from the Queer Acts Theatre Festival! I’m happy to let you know that Queer Acts had another successful summer. Many thanks to the artists, volunteers, supporters, and theatre-goers who made it all possible. Some noteworthy achievements of this year’s festival include:

  • Expanding from 4 to 5 days, allowing us to increase the number of artists and audience members welcomed by the festival
  • The launch of Fierce Freebies, free rush tickets to LGBTQ+ youth 20 years of age and under
  • Amidst a stellar line-up of shows, Monica Garrido won the Audience Award for her thoughtful, hilarious, and charming show, The Cunning Linguist

Several weeks back, I also posted the call for submissions to the 2017 festival. Until October 3rd, Queer Acts is seeking submissions of live performance with queer themes and content. Comedy, drama, professional, emerging, cabaret, musical theatre, puppetry, clown, multimedia, storytelling, and stand-up are all welcome. If you or someone you know might be interested in taking part, please CLICK HERE for more info or message me directly at queeracts@gmail.com to discuss. I’m always happy to chat with anyone who has an interest in the festival or queer performance.

And finally, you may find yourself on this email list as a recent or past Queer Acts attendee. While I’d love to continue sharing occasional festival updates with you, I realize you may prefer to be removed from this list. If that is the case, please do not hesitate to reply with “Unsubscribe” in the subject line.
