Activist and community organizer Raymond Taavel's murderer was released following a hearing on November 27. He has been in the East Coast Forensic Hospital for a decade. CBC story criticizing the lack of notice here.
Proud two-spirit graphic designer Jessica Jerome was featured by Nova Scotia Community College's People Of NSCC series. “As a Mi’kmaq Two-spirted woman, I’ve always had the passion in my heart to create. I was born in Listuguj Mi’kmaq First Nation and raised in Gesgapegiag Band. After high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do and didn’t know what kind of career would best suit me." Newfoundland & Labrador
Through decades of repression – both intentional and unintentional – the powerful story of 20th century queer community-building and activism in this province has remained largely ignored. Until now. Journalist Rhea Rollmann, through extensive interviews, archival work and investigative reporting, brings that history to light in A Queer History of Newfoundland, presently in its second print run! There will be an official launch in the New Year. Available at Engen Books, the St. John’s Farmers Market until they’re all gone. (You can also order it off their website), Travel Bug, Downtown Comics still has some copies as well.

Halifax
Unexpected Q: Rainbow flag in fancy wine store Bishops Cellar.
Queer Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated by Queer Spirit Church not in their home space, but at fellow queer church, St Andrew's United. Details of this events and all Q events are on the H•R•E events board.
For those whose lives are messed up from alcohol and substances, are now three LGBT specific recovery groups:
- Halifax: Thursday at 7:30 at St. Andrew’s Community Centre, 3380 Barnstead Lane
- Dartmouth: Sunday at 7:30 at Grace United Church, 70 King Street.
- Untoxicated Queers meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm. Check their page for details.
Queer Hockey Nova Scotia has announced July 19-21st, the week before Pride, as the dates for their HFX Pride Cup tournament. If you are interested in submitting a team or as a free agent, email qhns@qhns.ca .
ACNS is looking for individuals and groups in the Q community with a variety of performance styles and mediums from drag to comedy to acrobatics for their Red Gala Charity Fundraiser. Scheduled auditions are January 11th and 12th from 6-9 pm and Saturday, the 13th from 12-4 pm. Contact fund@acns.ns.ca to schedule your audition time. Booked performers will be compensated for their time. Rehearsals will be mandatory.
The Bus Stop Theatre is looking for a new Executive Director. “The Bus Stop has been through a lot in recent years and is now more financially stable than ever before, which opens up new opportunities to explore. It feels like the right time to make space for someone else to bring new energy and new perspectives to take it to its full potential,” says Sébastien Labelle, outgoing Executive Director. The Comic Strippers are a fictitious male stripper troupe played by a cast of some of Canada's best improvisational comedians. These guys try to be sexy... it just comes out funny. Semi-undressed and completely unscripted, The Comic Strippers take off their shirts and take on your suggestions to create a whole new genre of comedy. Halifax April 10th, tickets at the Dal Arts Centre Box Office.

After a year long discussion among parishoners, St James' Anglican in Mahone Bay will begin offering 2SLGBTQ+ marriages.
